Monday night, my son's basketball team played a rare weekday evening game.  And even though both teams were evenly matched, my son's team adhered to their planned rotation and all the players were given equal playing time. While hiking in the woods yesterday morning, we spotted a few whimsical beasts.  A water dragon roared to the surface of the river. A black bear spied from a safe distance. And a horned owl glared from the two-dimensional plane.

Our neighbors are rebuilding their house, and before it is demolished in a few days they allowed the local volunteer fire department to use the property for training.  For hours the firemen (and one firewoman) wielded axes and other entry tools, breaking through windows and cutting through the roof, as the neighborhood came out to watch.

I noticed the translucent warrior-in-waiting after a few glances, and I decided to seize the opportunity. After gathering a tripod and switching lenses, I cautiously ventured in closer hoping to photograph the encounter between it and its next meal. A few test shots later, the 10mm arachnid began to dissolve into a Samurai visage, arms uplifted in mid-aria.  Look closely, and you'll see as well.

My very good friend Roberto visited this past weekend.  He suggested we find an urban setting and take some photos, so we settled on a strip of Columbia Pike in South Arlington. I set out in search of more deviant art along the walls and found a solitary figure with an appealing sketchy swagger. Sadly, last week's graphic acquaintance was now shrouded in grey.
